<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">As per Gartner recent research, “Lack of digital business
competence will cause 25 percent of businesses to lose competitive ranking by
2017.”<span class="apple-converted-space"> <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">The above research finding
was not made exclusive to MSO Cable Industry in India, but it has relevance for
it as well.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">GOI has paved the way for
growth for Cable /MSO players by putting Regulation on Digitization of Cable TV
services in India in 2012.While policy makers are refining the ground rules
regularly, it has given an opportunity for Indian MSO to embark into the
journey of providing services likes of leading service providers in the world, and
bench marking their service like Industry leaders across the world-Comcast, Time Warner, Dish TV etc.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">Though India being the late
entrant in the journey of digitization, in last three years MSO Industry has
seen many hurdles in putting the processes, laying uniform policies, strengthening
the Cable TV value chain (MSO-LCO), defining tax regime and so on, but the core
objective remain unlocking the potential of industry to lead and build better
customer services. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">Phase-1 and Phase-2 of Digitization
saw few leaders from MSO industry being the early movers in putting system in
place through modernization of IT systems. However the larger benefits goes to
STB suppliers and manufactures in cashing the digitization opportunity, which
saw many analyst and investors putting their money into the market. I would
term this phase as <b>Digitization 1.0,</b>
which would be attributed to STB supplier or manufactures, thus enabling MSO to
put STB at homes. This phase did not see much changes in service differentiation
to end consumers, which is eminent from even after phase-1/phase-2 completion,
end users are yet to get personalized services and many MSO/LCO hasn't started
giving monthly subscription bills/invoices to end consumers.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">.</span></span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; mso-no-proof: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx5YIj9GwNlz5rX5ysCopvBcu1T8jkGOrYp7lauN9-08GCqspH8ZXBKbl-RjZesbu62tEgjPge-_SnhYyXH-f9e9w_v5653P6JHx2SJgDIyUJzFFagF-sl3OSzxPcelsp92kWo6b1spxKC/s1600/dg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx5YIj9GwNlz5rX5ysCopvBcu1T8jkGOrYp7lauN9-08GCqspH8ZXBKbl-RjZesbu62tEgjPge-_SnhYyXH-f9e9w_v5653P6JHx2SJgDIyUJzFFagF-sl3OSzxPcelsp92kWo6b1spxKC/s1600/dg.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<o:p></o:p><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; mso-no-proof: yes;">With the extended Digitization deadline
across India now, <b>Digitization 2.0</b>
seems to be shaping the MSO Industry for next leg of digitization. This would
largely be focused toward completion of pending digitization for phase-3 and
phase-4.These phases cover majorly rural and small town/cities across India. Phase-3/Phase-4
consumers are more cost sensitive than the consumers of Phase-1/Phase-2. With
the “Digital India” or “Make in India” initiative now by GOI, Digitization 2.0
should see more focus of local STB manufacturing, this curbing the cost of STB’s,
with “<b>made in India</b>” stamp on STBs
put in Indian houses now.This should also lowers the burdun on end customer
while transitioning into digital system.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; mso-no-proof: yes;">Digitization 3.0</span></b><span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; mso-no-proof: yes;"> would foresee many MSO
realizing the next generation services, Industry
consolidation and higher business value for MSO. This phase would pertain to
the real transformation for MSO Industry in India. This seems to be a distinct
possibility in near future, however the foundation has been laid and early steps has been taken by all stakeholders( Government, Industry Players, Investors
etc.), a focused and sustained effort might see this happening in three to
five years time!! <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">900+mn subs for Indian Telecom Industry, one of the fastest developed Industry in last ten years. Business Model envisaged ten years back now need relook. Ten years back when telecom business leaders chalked out plan to penetrate Indian Market, voice was the obvious answer, with slew of Value added services (VAS) got added over the years, but voice remain the key focus area and all business models revolved around it.Voice services are in the verge of saturations, data services are picking, which is going the shape the future of this Industry for next decade. One may call it tough time for Telecom business leaders I would rather say the transition period for Telecom Industry. This (transition) call operators to build right business model, develop right infrastructure to tap the untapped data market. However the real challenge to estimate the market size of data revenue. If you ask someone about the market of this, one would respond saying by 2017, 8bn devices would be connected. Or one would say e 15bn internet users or data market would be $ 200bn by 2017 so on and so forth. However the real question is to find out the numbers, which make shape the future of this Industry, question is to find the specific opportunities which will solve problems and help operators to build the right business model. Data revenue is loose word, when I say specific opportunities; the real question is from where these numbers will come. What would be product or services which enable to achieve these numbers? Some of the buzz words you might have heard are M2M, analytics, telematics, m-health, cloud so on so forth. Are we really able to see the big picture from all perspective?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Few days back in an interview with leading magazine in telematics, one of the executive said.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><i>“Thus,
one can imagine what shall be the growth potential of Telemetric Industry in
India. Thus market survey reports shows growth potential but in reality it is
not there. The fact is if we want the telemetric industry to grow in this
country, the mobile operator must come forward. If one thinks, we the people,
who only deals with the hardware part, will take this industry forward alone –
then it’s a big mistake. It is the recurring revenue earning source for the
mobile operators. The mobile operators must share the initiative for the growth
of this business too.”</i><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-size: 9.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><br /></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This clearly say the answer is omnipresent, our operators, are not geared enough to tap these opportunities. Industry as whole might seems lucrative, however this calls for looking into basics and develop business model for each and every opportunity. Let me try to realize the right technique and steps to develop business model and to see big picture.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was 5:30 in the morning on 3rd Jan this year, I got SMS from one of colleague, saying Mr. Gupta was died last night due to heart attack. He was on deputation in Uganda and away from his family. He was survived with one son and wife. He was just 43.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Twenty days <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>back, there was an internal obituary communication, saying that Mr. Panickar was died last night due to hearth attack. He left behind two sons and a wife. He was just 34 and of my age.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These two incidents shaken me and took me aback, I started pondering what made these two incident to take place.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Mahatma Gandhi said “It<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>is the health that is the real wealth, and gold and silver”. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the fast paced metro cities, like Delhi, we hardly think about health, we always think about wealth and always run behind money. We make excuse of lack of time for exercising. We prefer to commute by car even for getting daily needs from near by shops to save time.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Friends, It is the time to take the decision, the best decision of your life,whatever age you are on today and remember the words of Billy Grahan,"When wealth is lost ,nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, every thing is lost.”</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Whether it is to boost your fitness, heath or bank balance or an save your environmental, taking up cycling could be one of the best decision you can ever made. Not convinced? Let me tell few startling facts of taking to two wheels.</span></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">1. </span></span>Studies from Purdue University in US has shown that regular cycling can cut your risk of heart disease by 50%. According to one of the heart foundation, around 10,000 fatal heart attack could be avoided each year if people kept them fitter.</span></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">2. </span></span>One long term study carried out by Finnish researcher found that men who exercised at moderate level at least 30 min a day were half as likely to develop cancer as those who don’t. Other studies have found that women who cycle frequently reduce their risk of breast cancer by 34%.</span></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">3. </span></span>The best gift/benefit you can give to other by cycling is to avoid pollution and build the healthy environment<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>for your future generation. On an average, cars passenger were exposed to more then ,100,000 ultrafine particle , which can settle in lungs and damage cells. Every car that is off the road saves 5.1 metric tones of CO2 a year, and just 5% increase in cycle commutation across the world would cumulatively save 100 million tones of CO2 emission annually.</span></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">4. </span></span>There are many cities in the world where cycle runs faster then the cars in choked roads and you get to your destination <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>faster then the cars. </span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Friends, you may feel these are just numbers or an epilogue of <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>good quality research paper, but remember the words of Denis Waitly, the famous writer “Time and health are two precious assets that we don’t recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted.</span>"</div>

There is no doubt that the IT Indutry is going through turbulence in recent past. Companies has shrinked thier IT budget, and there is lot more expectation from the CIO to really add value.To revitalize the IT industry, onus is not only on CIO but with every IT Manager. Today's business surely need new ways rather i would say innovative ways of doing business.Contributing to continous growth is utmost. The average life of company has significately gone down in last 30 years from 25 years to 5 years, which is alarming for today's CEO, so company need to be competitative rather i would say to be innovative.There are three ways in which CIO can contribute and help their CEO and business to look for more meaningful support-<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red;"><strong>1. Cloud </strong></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><strong>2. Mobility</strong></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><strong>3. Analytics</strong></span><br />
<br />
With desire of continous growth,and increasing the botton line, oraganisatio need to look for reducing the cost incurred setting up the IT infrasture, IT Product & Service, IT Operation and Manitenance. <span style="color: red;"> <strong>Cloud</strong> </span> provide road for looking these objective achieved through relentless focus on current oraganiation needs.<br />
<br />
There is no doubt, the way we communicate,share,learn has changed over the past years thanks to social media. Now this opens door for looking new ways of doing business, helping fleet on street staff to work and perform better in organisation growth.<br />
<br />
There are plethora of data being generated in any organisation- structured data or unstructured data.Some time we call it <span style="color: red;"><strong>Big Data</strong></span>. Analytics has played instrumental role in decision making, monitoring , forecasting and helping CXOs to take better decision. Now the real challenge to manage this big data and develop analytic to help CEO to march for future actions.<br />
<br />
There is lot to come in these three space in future. Stay tuned....<br />

This is the one Industry where, investors, academicians and economist were keeping the tab since a long time.
Relaxing the FDI norms in retail, will open new avenue of growth and investment, and that to with the higher customer satisfaction. This will bring new technology and new ways of reaching retail customer, Wal-Mart is known for excellent supply chain worldwide and is the largest Retailer in the world. With the opening of FDI norms, now like Wal-Mart and other large retailer in world will be able to take-up the front end role in Indian retail store. There will be increase traction in supply chain and Information technology will play major part in doing it. This will call Indian and World IT service provider to nourish the approx $780b Indian Retail Industry.
This will open new way, new job opportunity and surely a way for IT company to increase their revenue. Today, the size of entire retail both organized and un-organized, is not known, but IT company can tap the unexplored world of retail.
Compared to World Retail Industry, Indian Retail market is still the nascent and there are lots of benchmarks available in this space of Indian retailer to achieve for. But surely the first step has been taken by government by easing the norms, Indian retail will witness the growth, which IT and other Industry has witnessed after opening the world market in 1990 in last 20 years.
The journey has just begin, there is long way to go, India need to pick up the race, where Chain and other developed world has already made the mark. However this will surely cheers the many.Narendra Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16771667299709000669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084622795837674406.post-56512544975950761942011-11-24T21:18:00.000-08:002011-11-24T21:20:05.968-08:00Untapped Growth ..I was recently going through the Book “The World is Flat” by the great Thomas L Friedman that was first published in 2005 and republished in 2006 with few updates.
Though it is now 5 years old, but the thoughts are still relevant and holds good today. One of my friend, who is in the retails, was looking for the cost effective distribution management system and Point of sale solution for one of his retail garment store. His objective was a cost effective solution, minimal investment is IT and Infrastructure and any time sales(Mobile Sales). I thought let me help him to suggest some of the COTS products, which are backed up by large organization. But his objective was very clear, no or minimal investment on IT. Then I started searching for open source, and I was amazed with the list when in googled the “Open source POS solution”. There are more than 20 different product in market which offer best in feature with all his intended needs.
The next wave of flatness has already reckoned the mobile applications, today India is the largest developer of Mobile application for all mobile handset, be it ipad, Andorid or windows platform. With the globalized economy and flat world one can build an applications in India and sell it to customer based out of US. This has been made possible only through the increased collaboration. We[Indian] should reap the benefit of this and get ahead, there is still lot need to be done, India being the second largest populous country in the flat world, but we just have 10% internet penetration, the scope is huge, there is an explored world is waiting for the 90% people of India. However this can not happen until the basic needs to people is fulfilled. I was amazed with the recently published report that 30 % of people live in less than $ 2 per day. The growth pace in China is faster than in India, thanks to the better infrastructure, committed Governance and zeal to rule the world.
We[India] are venerable not only due to China, but the Middle east and African countries ,which are moving fast to pickup the economic growth. This part of unexplored world is due for huge growth. They are continuously improving the Governance, Policy and strive for growth. The unrest happened in recent past in lot of African countries is opening the doors of better governance, improve policy and globalized economy. In this globalized economy, no country can rule the entire world, one need to continuously improve and innovate to serve the customer better what has been offered to him/her.
The journey is still on….Narendra Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16771667299709000669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084622795837674406.post-69530763322455571612011-02-19T09:56:00.000-08:002011-03-30T14:59:34.162-07:00<h1>TOP FIVE Watch for IT&ITES in year 2011.</h1>

</td></tr></table>inception of computing. It has been reported that, the next wave of growth for IT or ITES would come from manufacturing – To tap this growth, there is a need of identifying the true potential this segment. It is undoubted that BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India & China) has already gone ahead in terms of penetration of IT into manufacturing. Today the Indian IT industry estimated at $60b of value. With the current growth it has been estimated that Indian GDP would touch to $4.2 trillion in next ten year. To achieve this growth, IT would surely be the torch bearer. There are couple of promising areas in manufacturing, which would see higher spurt in coming year.
With the current estimate, Indian Auto car market would be close to China in next twenty years and would overtake US in terms of sales as well. This would require huge FDI in this sector. With the expected huge spurt in Infrastructure development, construction equipment manufactures would be higher sales volume. In order to achieve these high growth volume, manufacturing industry would require significant investment in R&D in terms of new product development, automation of production assembly line to meet higher volume target, greater safety measures , much efficient supply chain management, enhanced supplier /vendor management , reduce lead time /cycle time to meet the customer demand.Narendra Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16771667299709000669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084622795837674406.post-47463428676355979872011-02-04T09:30:00.000-08:002011-03-30T14:22:08.861-07:00<h1>Indian Telecom Industry: What Next?</h1>
With over 700m subscribers already, Indian Telecom Operators are gearing for new paradigm for generating more revenues and improve the BOTTOM line. In my view, year 2011 or next 2-3 years will witness lot of activities in this space. Organisation would look for opportunity to grow and establish its base; I guess couple to potential areas to be looked into in near future would be-
1. Mobile banking-We have recently saw Mobile operator tieing up with the Indian banks to catch the race in this area, MB( Mobile banking) has huge potential , and can prove the differentiator in achieving the customer delight.
2. M&A- Consolidation would be the key brain teaser for Board of some of the Mobile operators when they will make future strategies for one’s organization. With tariff rate are already touching the bottom, there is little room on this to scale up the revenue. Still the 2G fiasco in on, the court slamming the penalty on the dubious licenses, delivered to some of the operator by DOT. Organization is fighting hard for break even and generating the revenue. These could lead to the road of mergers and consolidation in Indian Operator. Though still 30% of Indian population is un-mobile, yet it would be hard nut to crack for new Telco to serves them, while fighting against the BIG guns already in the fray.
3. Value Added Services(VAS)- This offering along with the MB would see lots of pressure and growth in the future. This space is still very niche and few organization commands .The huge chuck of companies expenditure would go on this.Narendra Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16771667299709000669noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084622795837674406.post-13936882778964684892011-01-25T19:47:00.000-08:002011-03-30T14:18:53.819-07:00<h1>Indian IT Industry : What 's in 2030?</h1>

IT & ITES having lots of potential to grow in every fields, be it Telecom, Retail, Banking & Insurance, Manufacturing , Govt. every industry is buzzing with the growth, the enormous growth, companies can look for building to their TOP line but the real game changer would be the the BOTTOM line, which would make the difference in long run. In my views, organization would require to build the right block today, in order to reap the benefit after 20 year down the line.
Below would be the key challenge and focus area for an Indian IT companies –
1. Customer- “Customer is the First.”Organization need to inculcate the culture of Customer first in every facets of their function.
2. Innovation – If you look into the TOP five IT companies, major chunk of their earning comes through the operations and maintenance, managing client Infrastructure, which reckon the need to innovate. There is fundamental difference between Invention and Innovation. Organization to build product or services which should give revenue and profit. Organization need to look into the ways through which the Opex of their client can be reduced. Cloud computing surely help in that, still a lot need to be explored in order to make it the need of hours.
3. Execution- Companies, which would innovate and have faster execution, would lead the race. The recent data published on the R&D spends by TOP IT companies is really surprising. If you look into the Balance sheet of companies, companies hardly spend on R&D .Companies need to spare significant part of their spending into R&D, which is the investment, for the future. Microsoft spend 15% of their revenue into R&D, and our IT companies are no where, even not the 1%.
4. Operating Margin- This would surely be the key focus for all IT companies, with the time the margin would reduce, companies need to innovate and have best execution plan would win the race.
5. Continuous Improvement- This is analogous to innovation, companies need to build the culture of continuous improvement, in the every facets of its functions, processes ,be it project management, customer interfacing or customer advocacy.IT companies should lean from the mature manufacturing industries, who have pioneered the concept of lean, sig sigma and Kaizen.
This is very much understood, margin would be tight and under pressure in years to come, only those companies would survive who build the sound framework for Innovation and execution, in past we have seen even the giant companies have faced such situation, be it Lehman Brother, General Motors, Nomura and many more. The current lookout of TOP IT companies would surely change in years to come.Narendra Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16771667299709000669noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084622795837674406.post-91123700992945045202011-01-15T09:37:00.000-08:002011-04-02T05:39:12.626-07:00Future of MFI in India?The <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_inclusion#Financial_inclusion_in_India">financial Inclusion</a> has got big setback with the recent uproar happened in Andhra Pradesh against <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBFC_%26_MFI_in_India#MFI"><span style="color:#ff6666;">Micro Finance Institution (MFI).</span> </a>There are lots of learning both for MFIs and government. This surely brings the need of regulator in line with the banking, Insurance and Telecom sectors. There is need of revisiting the complete offering of MFIs practices relating to money raising, repayment process .Is this really hurting the objective of Financial Inclusion? Banks still have very low penetration in terms of saving account, banks /MFI/NBFC need to build their product and services some what in line with the mobile operators.Narendra Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16771667299709000669noreply@blogger.com0
